Handheld Maps

for:
The Cranbrook Educational Community
Bloomfield Hills, MI

CGA performed wayfinding services for the Cranbrook Educational Community ranging from exterior wayfinding analysis and planning to the design of printed handheld maps.

A unique feature of this campus is that most major public destinations are accessible only by internal roads. Consequently, Cranbrook administrators wanted to provide visitors with targeted handheld maps.

CGA designed two-sided maps for each of 11 campus destinations.

Cranbrook Educational Community is a 319-acre, world-renowned cultural and educational campus, designed by Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen. It includes the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Museum, the Cranbrook Institute of Science, Cranbrook House (the home of founders George and Ellen Booth), as well as 40 acres of gardens, lawns, and woodlands. The campus also contains several schools (Cranbrook, Kingswood, Brookside, Vaughn, and the Vlasic Early Childhood Center), as well as Lerchen Hall, the Performing Arts Center, St. Dunstan’s Playhouse, the Greek Theater, Thornlea, Wallace Ice Arena, and the Williams Natatorium.
